Petrol and Diesel Market Price vs. Formula Price in November 2025

Abstract

On 01 November 2025, the market price of Octane 92 Petrol reduced to LKR 294 from LKR 299 at the start of October, while the market price of Auto Diesel remained unchanged at LKR 277. Over that period, the prices computed by the cost recovery formula (formula price) reduced. For petrol, it reduced to LKR 295.25 (from LKR 300.62); for diesel, it reduced to LKR 273.04 (from LKR 277.73). The decrease in the formula price is due to the reduction in the reference index in the global market. Comparison of market and formula movements indicates that for Petrol 92, the market decrease of LKR 5.00 nearly matches the formula decrease of LKR 5.37. Currently, the market price is LKR 1.25 lower than the formula. In the case of Auto Diesel, the market price remained unchanged, while the formula price declined by LKR 4.69, resulting in the market price being LKR 3.96 higher than the formula.
