‘ගණිකා නිවාස’ වෙනුවට ‘ලිංගික සේවා සපයන ස්ථාන’?
Abstract
On July 19, 2024, the Dinamina and Mawbima newspapers reported on the raid of two sex service establishments. Both newspapers used derogatory terms such as “Ganika niwasa” (ගණිකා නිවාස) and “Ganika madam” (ගණිකා මඩම්), which contribute to the sexual objectification of women and promote marginalisation and negative attitudes. Media is advised to avoid such terms, especially in negative contexts, as their use is considered unethical.
