Abstract
On June 05, 2024, Daily Mirror, Divaina, Dinamina, and Lankadeepa newspapers reported that two married women with children were identified and questioned by police while fleeing their homes. The Daily Mirror used an emotional and prejudiced cartoon, while Divaina and Lankadeepa used the derogatory terms “Amuthu Asure” (අමුතු ඇසුරේ) and “Gehenu Pemak” (ගැහැනු පෙමක්) respectively in the headlines that marginalised women. The media should refrain from such reporting and focus only on relevant facts to prevent prejudice.
