එකම කතුවැකියක් තුළ “සුරූපී”, “රූමත් ගණිකා” හා “කුඩ්ඩෙක්”
Abstract
On June 14, 2024, the Divaina newspaper published an editorial that violated media ethics by using inappropriate language. The editorial included terms such as “Rumath” (රූමත්) and “Suruupi” (සුරූපී), which contribute to the sexual objectification of women. It also used derogatory terms such as “Ganika” (ගණිකා) and “Kudda” (කුඩ්ඩා), which promote marginalisation and negative attitudes.
Furthermore, the inclusion of derogatory terms such as "Ganikaa" (prostitute) and "Kudda" (little girl) is unacceptable, as it perpetuates marginalization and fosters negative attitudes. The media is encouraged to avoid using these terms, especially in negative contexts, as they can lead to the marginalisation of women and individuals who use drugs, further contributing to the sexual objectification of women.
