On February 5th 2024, TV news reported that NPP leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake visited India to meet with the Indian Foreign Minister. All major private media outlets, including Hiru, Derana, Siyatha, Sirasa, and Swarnavahini, featured this news prominently in their prime-time bulletin headlines. In contrast, state media channels Rupavahini and ITN only incorporated the story within the content of their prime-time bulletins. This difference in coverage suggests a potential bias in the state media's treatment of opposition party activities.
