Abstract

On January 24 2024, Aruna and Lankadeepa newspapers reported on an incident involving a person stealing money from a masseuse's bank account. In their coverage, the masseuse was referred to as "ස්පා කෙල්ල​ (Spa Kella)" and "ස්පා කත (Spa Katha)" terms which may be considered disrespectful. In contrast, Dinamina and Ada newspapers used the more appropriate term "සම්බාහන සේවිකාව (Sambahana Sewikawa)".
