Abstract
In the month of November 2018, articles published in DailyFT, Mawbima, Divaina, Dinamina, Lankadeepa and Ceylon Today contained misleading and sensational headlines and inaccurate information which is a violation of media ethical guidelines. Further, several Sinhala and English newspapers (i.e. Lankadeepa, Dinamina, Divaina, Mawbima, The Island, Ceylon Today, Daily Mirror and Daily News) referred to Mahinda Rajapaksa as 'Prime Minister' on 26 November 2018 despite the official announcement of the dissolution of the Cabinet being issued by the Speaker on 16 November 2018. This entry also includes an infographic analysing how the newspapers published on 17, 18 and 19 November 2018 reported on Mahinda Rajapaksa’s designation.
