Abstract
In the month of June 2022, the following media ethics violations took place in relation to reporting of sexual crimes.
An article published on Aruna reported a sexual crime by sensationalising it and using the word ‘dooshanaya’ (pollution) instead of calling it a sexual crime.
An article published on Divaina discussed sexual crimes by using the word ‘dooshanaya’ instead of calling it sexual crimes.
An infographic on how the words ‘dooshanaya’ and ‘keleseema’ were used in the newspapers Lankadeepa, Divaina, Mawbima, Aruna, Divaina in 2021 and 2022.
Divaina published an article on a sexual crime on a minor by trivializing the said sexual crime.
