    Abstract
This Insight analyses data to show three problems facing women in the Sri Lankan economy. These are that (i) women tend to choose working abroad to working in Sri Lanka when they seek employment; (ii) when women do work in Sri Lanka, they are significantly disadvantaged in reaching higher leadership and decision making positions; and (iii) women make up only one third of job seekers and the unemployment rate amongst women is much higher than for men.
