Post-war Sri Lanka has been looking prosperous, with high GDP growth numbers. This Insight delves into the data to examine where exactly the growth stems from within the three main sectors into which all of GDP is categorised: Services, Industry, and Agriculture. It reveals that within these sectors, it is really consumption that is contributing to Sri Lanka’s growth and that it is diaspora workers’ remittances which are paying for this consumption growth.
