Gaps in the Guardrails : A Review of Laws on Private Sector Corruption in Sri Lanka

Abstract

While public sector corruption dominates the headlines, private sector corruption remains a silent force undermining Sri Lanka’s economy. This report exposes key legal loopholes that enable bribery and weak corporate accountability in business practices. By benchmarking Sri Lanka’s laws against UNCAC standards, this research identifies nine major gaps and proposes urgent reforms. Strengthening these laws is crucial for economic recovery, investor confidence, and a conducive business landscape for the private sector.
