Abstract
On 12 August 2024, Lankadeepa reported an incident at a hotel in Wadduwa involving Chinese and Nepalese nationals, using the derogatory term “චීන්නු” (Chennu) in the headline and “චීන ජාතිකයන්” (Chinese nationals) in the content. Media is advised to avoid derogatory language, particularly in negative contexts, as it may contribute to the marginalisation of foreign nationals.
