Abstract

On 8 August 2024, Lankadeepa and Dinamina reported the arrest of an individual who used a photo of an international school teacher to maintain a fake Facebook account and falsely labeled her a sex worker. Both newspapers described the teacher’s appearance using the term "රූමත්" (Roomath), which was unrelated to the news context. Such language in media reporting can contribute to the sexual objectification of women.
