Abstract

On January 17, 2024, the Supreme Court ordered the invalidation of the presidential pardon granted by former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa to former Parliamentarian Duminda Silva, who had been sentenced to death and imprisoned for the murder of Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra. Sirasa, TV Derana, Rupavahini, Swarnawahini, ITN, and Siyatha reported this story on the same day during their prime Sinhala news bulletins, whereas Hiru TV did not cover the story.
