On July 3, 2024, the Mawbima newspaper reported a complaint from passengers against a bus conductor for charging incorrect fares. The headline used the derogatory term “Kondala” (කොන්දලා), which can stereotype and marginalise the profession and is considered unethical. However, in the article content, Mawbima used the appropriate term “Kondostharavarun” (කොන්දොස්තරවරුන්). Media is advised to maintain neutrality and avoid language that negatively highlights any profession.en_US
