Abstract
On June 19, 2024, the Colombo Fort Magistrate acquitted Nathasha Edirisooriya and Bruno Diwakara, stating that there was insufficient evidence to charge them under the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) Act for an alleged statement deemed offensive to Buddhist society. Sirasa, TV Derana, and ITN reported the news in their main Sinhala news bulletins, while Siyatha, Hiru TV, Rupavahini, and Swarnavahini did not cover it.
