    Abstract
On June 13, 2024, the Mawbima newspaper published an article that contained an ethical violation by failing to use person-first language when describing persons with disabilities. The derogatory term “abadhitha” (ආබාධිත) and the appropriate term “Abadha sahitha” (ආබාධ සහිත) were both used to describe persons with disabilities within the same report. Media outlets are advised to maintain neutrality in their reporting and avoid using language that negatively highlights disabilities or promotes marginalisation.
