On January 11, 2024, Sinhala newspapers reported the murder of a female Civil Aviation Officer, who was killed with a sharp weapon near the Kahathuduwa Expressway entrance on January 9, 2024, and the subsequent arrest of a suspect at Katunayake Airport. Lankadeepa, Dinamina, Mawbima, Divaina, and Ada newspapers published a photograph of the deceased woman, used sensationalised and derogatory language, and highlighted personal information to intensify the story’s emotional impact. In contrast, Aruna published the photograph with the deceased woman's eyes covered, demonstrating a more ethical and neutral approach. Media is advised to avoid disclosing personal information or photographs that reveal the identities of victims and suspects, even in reports on serious offences.en_US
