On 9 August 2023, Sinhala newspapers reported on the murder of a man in his mid-fifties, who was beaten to death by relatives of both himself and his girlfriend over his relationship with a 19-year-old woman. Newspapers such as Aruna, Divaina, and Lankadeepa placed greater emphasis on the age gap than on the murder itself, with Aruna further including an insensitive cartoon that could trivialise and sensationalise the incident. In contrast, Mawbima and Dinamina reported the event neutrally, without highlighting the age gap. The post juxtaposes all the headlines, inviting readers to assess which reporting approach they consider most appropriate.en_US
