On 3rd October 2023, the government media outlets Rupavahini and ITN, as well as the private media outlet Swarnavahini, did not report on a hartal/strike by northeastern lawyers during their prime-time news broadcasts. In contrast, private media outlets such as Sirasa, Hiru, Derana, and Siyatha covered the event in their prime-time news broadcasts. This discrepancy highlights a potential bias towards the government by some private and government media outlets, which goes against media ethical guidelines.en_US
