On May 15, 2023, Sinhala language newspapers Ada, Aruna, Dinamina, Divaina, Lankadeepa, and Mawbima reported on the death of a young woman from Gampola who was a victim of homicide. Dinamina, Aruna, Mawbima, Lankadeepa, and Divaina reported on the incident in a sensationalist manner in the headlines, describing in detail how the young woman was killed and that she wasn't subjected to sexual assault using the term "dooshanaya" (දූෂණය), whereas Ada reported only the facts in the headline using proper term "apayojanaya" (අපයෝජනය) for sexaul assault. Media is advised to report such sensitive incidents in a manner that does not evoke fear and shock.en_US
