Abstract
On January 8, 2024, an article published in Lankadeepa newspaper reported on the suicide of a woman. The language used in the article placed blame on the victim and oversimplified the complex factors contributing to her decision. Additionally, referring to the victim as "රුවැත්තියක් (Ruwaththiyak)" perpetuates stereotypes and objectifies her.
