Abstract
In the month of June 2023, Sinhala newspapers Mawbima, Aruna, Sathi Aga Aruna, Lankadeepa, Ada, Divaina, Dinamina, English newspapers The Island and Daily News and the Tamil newspaper Thamilan published several articles which contained the following ethical violations related to suicide reporting; method in headline, method in content, no helplines, prominence, photo of person who died by suicide and published suicide note.
