    Abstract
On the 3rd of September 2023, the Sinhala newspaper Sathi Aga Aruna published an article surrounding the death of a female servant who had been working for a businesswoman. The newspaper had referred to the deceased female's work as "mehekaara sevaya" (මෙහෙකාර සේවය), while the suspected businesswoman had been referred to as a "suroopiniya" (සුරූපිනිය). On the 11th of September 2023, Sinhala newspapers published articles about the death of a British girl in Mount Lavinia. Lankadeepa and Dinamina referred to the deceased female as "suroopiniya" (සුරූපිනිය) and "roomath" (රූමත්). But Divaina and Ada did not use such terms, thereby abiding with media ethics of not unnecessarily highlighting a person's appearance. On the 15th of September 2023, the Sinhala newspaper Aruna published an article about the arrest of a female suspect. The paper had described her as "lassana" (ලස්සන), "priyamanaapa" (ප්‍රියමනාප) "roomath" (රූමත් ).
