Abstract
During the month of July 2023, articles published in Lankadeepa, Divaina and Dinamina newspapers and a news report broadcast by Hiru used the word "නරුමයා"(narumaya) to demonise a suspected father who first held his child hostage, and thereafter killed him. Aruna and Ada reported the incident ethically without using the derogatory term "නරුමයා"
