Abstract
In the month of August 2023, Sinhala newspapers Dinamina, Divaina, Lankadeepa and Sinhala TV channel Hiru used derogatory terms such as "කුඩුකාරයා" (Kudukaraya), "කුඩ්ඩන්" (Kuddan) and "මත් ලෝලියා" (Math loliya) to discriminate against the suspects. On 9th August 2023, Derana TV reported the same news as Hiru, avoiding derogatory language such as "මත් ලෝලීන්" (Math lolin). On August 16th, 2023, Dinamina reported the same news as Lankadeepa, using neutral language and avoiding derogatory terms like "කුඩුකාරයා" (Kudukaraya).
