Abstract

During the months of March and April 2023, several Sinhala and English newspapers, i.e. Dinamina, Divaina, Daily News and Daily Mirror, published articles on various topics (i.e. Journalist falsely seeks Asylum, Masses given wrong image on PAYEE tax and Alien mothership lurking in our solar system) without verifying their sources. These articles were presented as confirmed news, even though they had not been verified by trustworthy sources. In contrast, foreign media typically include a disclaimer indicating their content has not been verified.
