Abstract
Newspapers have reported conflicting information when reporting on the end of the war heroes' fast. Divaina, Mawbima and Lankadeepa reported that fast ended because of the interference of Sajith Premadasa but the same papers also reported that it ended after Mahinda Rajapaksa promised to look into their demands. Meanwhile, Resa reported that Sajith solved the problem and Mahinda dissolved the fast. Ada reported fast ended because the presidential election candidates promised that they will give solutions to soldiers’ demands.
During the same month an advertisement of Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa was published in English, Sinhala and Tamil language Sunday newspapers. Sunday Lankadeepa, Silumina, Thinakkural, Virakesari, Sunday Island and Sunday Times mentioned that it is an advertisement but Sunday Divaina, Sunday Mawbima, Sunday Observer and Ceylon Today did not mentioned, which is a violation of media ethics.
This also includes an infographic that compares the number of presidential candidate advertisements published in media with and without mentioning those are paid ads.
