dc.description.abstract	On 23 August 2024, TV Derana reported a suicide on its main evening news, omitting emergency helpline numbers and describing the method used. The media is encouraged to follow ethical guidelines when reporting on murders and suicides. Avoiding detailed descriptions of suicide methods and including emergency helpline numbers can help prevent copycat incidents and direct those at risk to counseling support.
