This entry includes an infographic and a write-up in Sinhala.
On September 6, 2024, Lankadeepa, Aruna, and Dinamina newspapers reported a case involving a Chinese national wanted by Interpol for financial fraud in China. Lankadeepa and Aruna used the derogatory term "චීනා" (Cheena) in their headlines but used the correct term "චීන ජාතිකයෙකු" (Chinese national) in the article content. Media is advised to avoid derogatory language, especially in negative contexts, as it can marginalise foreign nationals. Dinamina adhered to media ethical guidelines by using "Chinese national" in both the headline and content.
