Article 157 - An Alternative Law-Making Process Under the Sri Lankan Constitution
Abstract
A different way of making laws in Sri Lanka? Article 157 of the Constitution allows certain international agreements and treaties to be given the force of law. Interestingly, Manthri.lk observed that the Resolution on the agreement between Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), passed by Parliament on 9 September 2025, is an example of the use of Article 157.
