    Abstract
    There is a popular myth that cigarettes are overtaxed in Sri Lanka. But did you know that the tax share in the retail price of a cigarette was highest in 2021—yet still remained below the World Health Organization’s recommended benchmark? In fact, the tax-in-price of a cigarette currently stands at its lowest level since 2009.
