| dc.description.abstract | On July 24, 2024, Mawbima and Lankadeepa, and on July 26, 2024, Aruna, reported on new efforts to facilitate voting for people with disabilities. While covering such initiatives is commendable, those newspapers used derogatory terms such as “Abadhitha Prajawa” (ආබාධිත ප්රජාව), “Drushyabaditha” (දෘශ්යාබාධිත), “Shrawyabaditha” (ශ්රව්යාබාධිත), and “Anda Prajawa” (අන්ධ ප්රජාව), which may contribute to the marginalisation of people with disabilities and are considered unethical. Media is advised to maintain neutrality, use person-first language, and avoid terms that negatively highlight disabilities. | en_US |
