This entry includes a write-up and an infographic (both in Sinhala).en_US
On June 11, 2024, the Lankadeepa newspaper, and on June 10, 2024, the Aruna newspaper, reported an incident in which members of the “Little People of Sri Lanka Association” conducted a vehicle washing program on the road in front of the Mount Lavinia Cemetery on June 8, 2024. The Lankadeepa headline used the derogatory term “Miti Minissu” (මිටි මිනිස්සු) in its headline, which may contribute to the marginalisation of people with dwarfism and is considered unethical. However, Aruna used the appropriate term “Punchi Minisun” (පුංචි මිනිසුන්) to refer to them. The media is advised to maintain neutrality in their reporting and avoid using language that negatively highlights disabilities or promotes marginalisation.en_US
