| dc.description.abstract | On June 14, 2024, the Divaina, Aruna, and Dinamina newspapers reported the tragic death by suicide of a doctor at the Point Pedro Hospital in Jaffna. All three newspapers published the story without including any helplines and described both the reasons for and the method of the suicide, which constitutes a violation of media ethical guidelines. Additionally, Divaina and Dinamina gave the report undue prominence. Media is advised against such reporting, particularly when covering sensitive and negative content, as they can act as a catalyst for further suicides. | en_US |
