On 25 June 2024, Aruna and Dinamina newspapers reported on the arrest of a Chinese national for stealing jewellery from an aircraft. In their coverage, Dinamina used the appropriate term "Cheena jathika" (චීන ජාතික) in both the title and content, while Aruna used the derogatory term "Cheena" (චීනා) in the title and the appropriate term “China jathika” (චීන ජාතික) in the content. The media is advised to refrain from using such derogatory terms, as they may lead to xenophobic attitudes and the marginalisation of foreign nationals.en_US
