On May 30, 2024, the Mawbima newspaper reported a murder incident, and on May 31, 2024, the Lankadeepa newspaper reported an incident of a drunk person trespassing into a house. In both reports, the newspapers unnecessarily highlighted the woman’s appearance by using the term “Ruumath” (රූමත්), which was irrelevant to the context. The use of such terms in media reporting can contribute to the sexual objectification of women.en_US
