On May 23, 2023, the Student Union of the University of Peradeniya held a protest against several reasons including student suppression and the Anti-Terrorism Act. The table in the infographic depicts the polarisation between privately-owned and state-owned media based on their primetime news broadcasts. Privately-owned Sirasa, Swarnavahini, Derana, Hiru, and Siyatha TV channels reported on this protest, whereas state-owned ITN and Rupavahini TV channels did not report on the protest.en_US
