On May 11 and May 12, 2023, Aruna, Mawbima, and Dinamina newspapers reported on an incident where a man was arrested for placing bids for photographs of underaged girls via Facebook. On May 11, Aruna and Mawbima mentioned the man who was arrested was from a "walawwa" (වලව්ව) which is irrelevant to the context of the news. Dinamina which reported on the same day did not mention this fact. Likewise, Aruna report on the following day (May 12) also did not mention this fact. Such reporting violates media ethical guidelines which advise to exercise particular care to respect the private and family lives of individuals.en_US
