On May 11, 2023, Dinamina and Divaina newspaper editorials were focused on the man suspected for the death of a 16-year-old girl in Kalutara. Both editorials used terms such as "Pachcha pathaya" (පච්ච පතයා), "pachcha kotagath niruwath yodhaya" (පච්ච කොටාගත් නිරුවත් යෝධයා), stereotyping lifestyle choices such as having tattoos and the body type of the suspect when irrelevant to the context of the news. In addition, while the guilt of the suspect is unproven in a court of law, the editorials demonise the suspect by using terms such as "Kalutara maraya" (කළුතර මැරයා), conducting a trial by media, violating media ethical guidelines related to objectivity and neutrality.en_US
