| dc.description.abstract | On May 04, 2023, Dinamina and Divaina newspapers reported on an incident where an individual was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport for carrying a plastic revolver and pistol. Dinamina and Divaina highlighted the ethnicity of the individual as "Drawida jathika" (ද්රවිඩ ජාතික) when irrelevant to the context of the news. This violated the media ethical guideline to not mention ethnicity of individuals when it is not relevant to the news and can contribute towards negative attitudes and stereotyping of those belonging to the same ethnicity. | en_US |
