Change in Tariffs on Monthly Electricity Consumption
Abstract
Electricity tariffs were initially revised in August 2022, which was the first revision since November 2014. However, in February 2023 tariffs were revised again. For households using less than 60 units, the initial tariffs were LKR 2.5 per kWh with a fixed charge of LKR 30 for 0-30 units, and LKR 4.85 per kWh with a fixed charge of LKR 60 for 31-60 units. In 2022, these rates were amended to LKR 8 and LKR 10 per kWh, with fixed charges increasing to LKR 120 and LKR 240 respectively. The 2023 amendment further increased the rates to LKR 30 and LKR 37 per kWh, with fixed charges of LKR 400 and LKR 550. For households consuming more than 60 units, the initial tariff for 0-60 units was LKR 7.85 per kWh with no fixed charge, which was amended in 2022 to LKR 16 per kWh and a new fixed charge of LKR 360 in 2023.
