Parliamentary report card: Nimal Siripala De Silva – September 2015 to February 2020 and August 2020 to May 2022
Abstract
This report card shows the contribution of Nimal Siripala De Silva (SLPP) in 8th and 9th parliaments. It is based on analysis of Hansard data from September 2015 to February 2020 (8th) and August 2020 to May 2022 (9th). This includes attendance in parliament sittings (337/414; 154/165), total number of productive interventions he made in parliament (8th - 144; 9th - 122) and topics which were discussed most by him in the parliament i.e. Governance, Administration and Parliamentary Affairs, Economy and Finance, Justice, Defense and Public Order, National Heritage, Media and Sports and Health. It also gives ministerial portfolios he held from 2000 to present (2023) and details of his letter of resignation sent to the President following an allegation made by Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa in Parliament on 5 July 2022 citing a social media report that a cabinet minister had solicited a bribe from Japan’s Taisei Corporation.
