dc.description.abstract | During the month of March 2023, several articles in Dinamina, Divaina, Ada, Mawbima, Lankadeepa and Daily Mirror published on suicide, which contained the following ethical violations; describing the method of suicide, not publishing helplines, using the inappropriate term "committed suicide", revealing the identity of the victims and publishing suicide notes. The article on Daily Mirror even included an infographic.
The reportage in Silumina and Ada included a helpline in one instance. Also, in an interview published on 05 March 2023, Silumina reported attempting to suicide as a criminal act, but is incorrect as it is no longer an offence under Sri Lankan law. | en_US |
