Abstract

In the month of December 2018, articles published in Dinamina, Divaina, Lankadeepa and Mawbima included derogatory terms such as "dooshanaya" (දූෂණය), “kelesa” (කෙළෙසා), “kelesu” (කෙළෙසූ), “kudda” (කුඩ්ඩා), “kuddo” (කුඩ්ඩෝ), “ganika” (ගණිකා), and “chena” (චීනා) which violates media ethics. Meanwhile, Mawbima report published on 19 December 2018 used the term ‘Chinese national’ (චීන ජාතිකයා), thus complying with media ethical guidelines.
