A man succumbed to injuries sustained after being attacked by a group of men in Teldeniya in March 2018. As a result, a tense situation arose in the areas of Digana and Teldeniya. It was observed that several newspapers (i.e. Sunday Divaina, Daily Mirror, Sunday Lankadeepa, Sudar Oli, Thinakaran, Thinakkural and Virakesari) violated media ethical guidelines by highlighting the ethnic identity of the victim and assailants in negative contexts and by including unnecessary visual representations. This entry also includes 2 infographics which illustrates how the Sudar Oli, Thinakaran, Thinakkural and Virakesari reported the incident i.e. placement of the blame, how it described those that were attacked, how it described the attackers and the description of the incident. Notably, on 6 March 2018, some Sinhala newspapers including Dinamina and Divaina reported the incident compiled with media ethical guidelines.en_US
