In the month of February 2018, there were communal clashes in Ampara area over allegations that the food served at a restaurant contained sterilization pills. It was observed that some newspaper reports also indirectly fuelled the incident leading to communal conflict. This infographic illustrates how the newspapers (i.e. Divaina, Lakbima, Lankadeepa, Rivira, Ada, Mawbima, Thinakaran, Virakesari, Thinakkural and Sudhar Oli) reported. All newspapers have mentioned that this was a pill but only Ada included sources of information. Thinakaran, Virakesari, Thinakkural and Sudhar Oli have highlighted the ethnicity of the victim whereas other newspapers have not. Only Virakesari, Thinakkural and Sudhar Oli newspapers have mentioned the nationality of the attackers.en_US
