During the month of January 2018 several newspapers and tv news telecasts/programmes reported on the sexual assault case of a minor in the Magama area. It was seen that a number of media ethics were violated in reporting this incident i.e. used derogatory language as "කෙළෙසීම” (Divaina), published images of the victim (Divaina), published the letter written by the victim prior to her suicidal attempt (Rivira), not included suicide helplines (Divaina, Rivira, Ada). Ada and TV Derana adhered to ethical guidelines by not disclosing the identity of the victim and not using the derogatory language.en_US
