dc.description.abstract | During the month of October 2021 Lankadeepa, Divaina, Mawbima and Aruna published several articles which contained the ethical violations of using derogatory and backward terms such as "haamputha", "mathloliya" and "ganika", which discriminate and stereotype certain groups in society. "Haamputha", meaning "master", connotes that in the employer-employee relationship, the former is superior to the latter. "Mathloliya", meaning "person who loves alcohol", inaccurately describes and stereotypes persons who are addicted to alcohol. "Ganika", meaning "prostitute" degrades and disrespects sex workers. | en_US |
