"අපෝ අපෝ මහතා" - මෙම කතුවැකිය ගැන ඔබේ අදහස?
Abstract
On 2nd August 2023, the Dinamina editorial commented on an incident where singer Umara allegedly mispronounced the word "Matha" (mother) as "Mahatha" (Sir) while singing the national anthem at a cricket-related event. While most dismissed this as a minor mistake, the editorial claimed it was deliberate, suggesting that an individual at the cricket board, who is financially supportive of singers and other associated parties, influenced the rendition. The editorial went further, referring to this individual as "Bada Mahatha, Thal Kotayak Weni Eka," (බඩ මහත, තල් කොටයක් වැනි එකා) which could be interpreted as a body-shaming remark. This incident highlights how media platforms can deviate from neutral reporting and resort to ad hominem attacks, raising concerns about journalistic ethics.
